3 things determine the size of a video file: 1) the number of pixels in the frame, 2) the amount of video compression, & 3) the method of video compression, e.g. H.264, H.265 etc. Number 2, the amount of video compression, usually stated as the bit rate, is perhaps the most critical, e.g. on a 4k TV, 1080p Blu-ray video can look better than 4K streamed because the streamed video has Much more compression to fit through the internet pipes.

"But what is the quality of the video? Better or worse? Are the pixels multiplied? Or does it remain the same?"

Every time a video is encoded [converted] or altered you will lose some quality -- there's absolutely no way around that -- which is why pro video is always shot at higher quality than the final release. You're usually also better off having electronics upscale for display rather than using software to do the grunt work, whether you're working with video or still photos, unless the software uses AI -- software has to guess at the color & brightness of the pixels it adds, which, depending on your quality standards, can be less than satisfactory.
