Apparently, Epubor VitalSource Downloader frees-up ( "removes DRM from ) copies of digital textbooks that you BUY from Vitalsource.
My steps:
-- After installation of Epubor VitalSource Downloader, create a VitalSource[.]com account, either within Epubor VitalSource Downloader. or using your own browser.
-- Then browse to VitalSource[.]com in your own browser, sign in, and search for, and select, and BUY a book.
-- You will see that VitalSource is not a library, but VitalSource is a BOOK STORE, an educational academic book store.
-- So, BUY something, first.
-- Then open Epubor VitalSource Downloader, and download your own private full-use copy.
-- Then un-buy the book at VitalSource if you can or care to.
Here's an example of an advantage that Epubor VitalSource Downloader promises me:
I see a popular textbook that claims to sell for $74 retail hard copy.
VitalSource offers a digital edition for $17 rent for 6 months ( supposedly a school semester ).
VitalSource offers a digital edition for $50 "unlimited access" ( supposedly forever, as long as you have their application on a working device to read their locked copy of the textbook resource ).
Epubor VitalSource Downloader promises to let me download that $17 copy and convert it to be mine for keeps.
Epubor VitalSource Downloader also promises to download that $50 copy and convert it to be mine for keeps, considering that VitalSource themselves hints that the "unlimited access" is actually "limited" to be only through their own BLM Bookshelf Learn More application, presumably an application that can unlock and "see" their "unlimited access" ( sic ) locked resource, even if you have your own copy of that book resource on your own device, off the web -- I presume that downloaded book is still a locked resource.
So, Epubor VitalSource Downloader offers to unlock any VitalSource resource that you BUY.
So, I compare for the same sample popular textbook:
-- Amazon offers
---- rental ( ! ) of the hard copy for $20;
---- purchase of the hard copy for $79 new, $25 used;
---- purchase of the digital edition for $50, same as VitalSource,
... and we all know that the digital edition can be unlocked to be Kindle-DRM-free using other resources, such as available from Epubor and others.
-- My local library offers
... I can't find the same text book in digital format at my local library ( they use OverDrive and other resources );
---- the hard copy is available to borrow free for 2 weeks;
---- and the library does have 400+ digital "Homework and Homeschool Study Aids" that I can "borrow" and download free,
... and Epubor and others have DRM-removal tools to allow me to keep referring to such downloaded resources without limits on time or limits on which device or application can "see" the resource with.
So, again, Epubor VitalSource Downloader removes DRM from VitalSource digital textbooks that you BUY.
Does anyone know of a source for BORROWING free those same digital textbooks?

Epubor's VitalSource Downloader does NOT give you free books. Rather, you have to buy (or rent?) your book from VitalSource, and when you do, this program will allow you to convert the ViltalSource VBK file (which is protected by DRM) into an un-protected PDF or epub format document to your computer. I have not tested it so cannot say how well it works.

Description is confusing. I was wondering if this was a download app or a source of free books and if so what kind of books? So I gave it a go and it appears to install fine
A bit of plagiarism here.
I'm having the same trouble as Andy! I don't have any books so I clicked on Browse Store and up came a a blank screen, with just Settings and About. I too have been waiting for something to happen!
Waiting now for 20mins ongoing
So if anyone knows? Do I get free books? What is stopping the browser. Is it my firewall? Is it mass access to server by others? Is it using Opera internet search engine. Is it I need yo pay to get actual books? Any other suggestions?
Will try once more tomorrow

D Murphy,
The clue is the word "VitalSource." Google that and you'll find it's a place to buy or rent textbooks in digital format.
If you're not a student having to buy expensive textbooks, this software is irrelevant and useless.

It seemed to install all right when I fed it my legit email addy, it said it wouldn't accept it. Beats me why. Nobody else has had any issues with my gmail address.
Uninstalled and disappointed.

PAUL, read the README.TXT file -- it states inside to use giveaway@giveawayoftheday.com as the email address not your own.

After I installed, it did not run the software and it created a shortcut on my desktop.
When I double-clicked on the shortcut, nothing happens.

I waited for several hours and still the software does not start.
