This is the next one down from the Dimo product that all those single format sub-products are derived from (Dimo Video Converter Ultimate). By installing this you can do away with most of the other programs and lose nothing. If you have a previous giveaway of this it retrieves shortcut and location settings from the existing installation and does NOT offer to change the install location but does allow change of shortcut options. So it will install over the top of the previous giveaway. If you want to change the install location you have to uninstall the previous version first but otherwise you can install this over the top of the old version 4.1.0 giveaway. You should register this new version with the new key provided at the web page indicated in the readme.txt file.
The Media Server tab is the biggest waste of space and resources since it is just a dumb HTTP server whose only control is to select a folder whos contents are to be served by a dumb http server with no frills or stop command so as you add different folders to serve just a new random port is assigned and a new instance of the server is launched which just wastes resources... to stop all the instances of the server you have to exit the program and everything stops.
The description says it "•Transcode MTS, AVI, MOV, MXF, H.265 (HEVC), etc. to mobile devices, VR, TV, etc."
It does not Transcode as that is a very specific lossless operation to translate the already encoded data to a different format without decoding and lossy re-encoding. This only uses codecs so has to decode and re-encode NOT transcode.
Note that the default bitrate preset values offered for all the output profiles are NOT optimised for the specific output profiles and WILL result in larger than wanted output files you need to know what bitrates are sensible for the video dimensions, colour depth, codec type and what level of compression artifact is acceptable to you and enter the bitrate you have decided upon manually.
The GUI does not render very nicely over remote desktop, none of the Dimo products render nicely and look as if it is dithering the GUI to a 256 colour palette even though remote desktop session is set to 32bit colour and bandwidth optimisations for the settings is set for highes possible bandwidth and quality.
The 4K/UHD presets do not include the HEVC H265 codec which is DESIGNED for UHD resolutions! It only offers old style H264 codec but it does does offer seperate MP4 and MKV HEVC H265 presets but those presets do not offer under their preset resolutions anything more than FHD 1920x1080 ... one can force the resolution to a UHD one using the custom preset option but that does not instill much confidence that the codec is configured to optimally handle UHD or true 4K resolutions.
Tried downloading an 8K youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-RjGEWW3nk and all it downloaded was the 1280x720 pixel video... and the ytdownloader it uses is spawned using a randomly assigned temporary executable filename that requires firewalls that block unknown programs outbound internet requests to be authorised EVERY SINGLE download!
All free video downloaders I've tried only offer upto 1080p FHD the last giveaway of allavsoft downloader set for best available on the same 8k video downloaded the 3840x2160p video as a .webm file.
So the downloader is more troublsome to use and less capable than many current free downloaders and certainly inferior to allavsoft downloader.
The programs folder has a cuda.dll file in it suggesting there is some support for Nvidia cuda hardware assistance which is a depretiated technology in preference to NVEncode with newer Nvidia GPU models.
Tried loading the 2160p UHD webm video into this and due to the poor remote desktop session rendering problem this has I cannot see all the options on the entry in the converter file listings... if I click on the snapshot on the left it launches the file in the bundled "8k player" program and is very jumpy and unable to render any video. If I choose the snapshot button to take a JPG snapshot from the 3840x2160p video the resultant JPG snapshot only has 2048x1152 pixel dimensions and only standard dynamic range not HDR like the source material.
I won't be attempting to convert the UHD video with this since it is clearly not designed to handle UHD acrosss the programs facilities and presets and it would take too long to convert the video under ideal conditions and I have spent long enough on this comment.
