Am I missing something here? Why would you want a barcode reader on your home computer? I assume that by the time you got the item home to read the barcode, you'd already bought the item, so what good would it do to read it then? I use to have one on my phone, but finally deleted it due to lack of use and to save internal memory space.

It works. My quick check, I had a link stored on my phone and wanted to get it to my PC.
Used an app to make a QR code of the link, displayed QR code on phone screen.
Used "Barcode Reader 10.5.5" to read, via a cheap (£2 from charity shop) 640x480 webcam, the QR code from the phone screen.
Copy-pasted the decoded text into the browser,
