I hope this does NOT mean that questions on today's GAOTD-page (here) will automatically be "rerouted" to Twitter and answered there only.

Perhaps I'm oldfashionned, but I don't want a Twitter account (nor Facebook or any other so called "social network accounts" for that matter) and I don't like being pushed into taking one either. I'm not saying Paragon does (or intends to do) so and I hope they never will. I'm just saying that I don't like this (spreading, purely commercial and anti-social) practice, whoever is behind it.

I'm using Paragon software (offered here) on a regular basis and I like their products. So I expect today's offer to be good as well, even before trying it out. I don't expect many negative comments or reported problems today ;-) [Exept perhaps for Windows 7 support? Who knows...]

This new version comes as single installation file, both for Win 32- and 64-bit. So file size if bigger, but now you won't have a problem like "I downloaded wrong file".

Older version will be uninstalled, but Backup Capsule stays in the system and it's possible to work with it in new version 10.

This version has new features that were not available in version 9:
* Smart Backup
* backup to FTP
* updated Adaptive Restore (now called P2P)
And yes, it does work with Windows 7 64-bit.

To use or reinstall the program later you can do the following:
a) save MSI installation file for future use
b) create bootable Recovery CD from installed program. You can later use it to recover crashed system from backup

Windows installation also has P2P wizard, but it can only work with non-system partitions. So if you need to apply P2P to current boot disk, install Backup & Recovery to another PC and connect the disk to that PC as secondary one.

To #12:
If you make a backup image of your system drive with this very program, then you can restore everything, including this installed program. Also included is an .iso file to create a bootable CD. You can run this program from the CD. In other words: provided you create the CD, you are safe!

I have been very happy with Paragon switching from years of Acronis.
Use the previous GOTD version and decided to PAY for the V10 suite.
Created the V10 Suite CD and attempted to restore a V9 image due to a hard drive replacement. The restore failed after 4 hours with an IO error and not telling me if it was a read or write. Tried the V9 cd and restore worked fine, And my system was up and running fine.

New image backup with V10 Suite (PAID version) estimated 10 hours backup (500GB Drive) standalone but it crashed after 5 hours with an addressing exception. Went back to V9, full backup was 3hours 25 minutes.

Problems with V10 have been reported and logs included for both Failure with V10 and success with V9. NO RESPONSE yet.

Will try todays GOTD and see.

BOTTOM LINE is do NOT TRUST ANY BACKUP VENDOR without trying there restore. It is all about RECOVERY, NOT BACKUP!

What about the problem of not having access to this if you lose it because of a hard drive crash? Can you restore your backup if you have a crash?

This is an issue that we have had with many of the giveaways. Once today is over I don't have access to reinstall. Will this product restore without reinstalling the product?

That is, will the restore program work in an emergency when you need it?
